Burning Sailing Yacht in Palma de Mallorca
For yet unknown reasons, on Tuesday afternoon, 2nd February 2010, the sailing yacht Il Sovereign, built by Wally, completely burnt out in Palma de Mallorca. The luxury sailing yacht was stored in dry dock for repairs.
Two fire experts and a Pantaenius claims specialist arrived there shortly after the fire broke out in order to find out what had happened and to inspect the full extent of the damage.
At present, the investigations have shown that an explosion took place in the engine room. Two employees of a repair company were working on the yacht when the incident occurred. A neighbouring yacht, another Wally, had also been affected by the fire. Three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, following the fire, but were released after a short time.
The Pantaenius claims expert estimates that the total damage for both yachts insured at Pantaenius could run into millions of Euros. For Il Sovereign, a total loss has been ascertained.
